Hong Kong hotel crowned world’s best, Kyoto, Bangkok in top 10

The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto in Japan ranked fifth, while Thailand’s Park Hyatt Bangkok placed ninth in the list published on Oct. 6.

The annual awards, now in their 39th year, drew 798,867 votes across travel categories, including hotels, resorts, destinations, and transport.

There are separate rankings for hotels and resorts.

The Peninsula Hong Kong, opened in 1928 on the Kowloon waterfront, combines a century of history with views of Victoria Harbor and a style of service long associated with Hong Kong’s luxury hospitality, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

Afternoon tea in its grand lobby remains a signature experience, with a string quartet playing above the ornate columns. Guests can also arrive in one of the hotel’s 14 iconic green Rolls-Royce Phantoms, it adds.

Condé Nast Traveler highlights its attentive staff, harbor views, and rooms decorated in dark wood and champagne tones. Dining options include Cantonese restaurant Spring Moon and French fine-dining venue Gaddi’s, and a swimming pool and spa overlook the harbor.

The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto offers a quiet setting beside Kyoto’s Kamogawa River and is within walking distance of attractions like Gion.

Opened in 2014, the 134-room property incorporates local craftsmanship into its contemporary interiors, from wooden latticework to lacquer and silk. Guest rooms feature cherry blossom motifs and calligraphic art, Conde Nast Traveler notes.

Dining includes Japanese cuisine at Mizuki and Italian food at La Locanda. A basement swimming pool and spa provide space to unwind after exploring the city’s temples.

Park Hyatt Bangkok takes a more contemporary approach, with interiors that Condé Nast Traveler likens to an art gallery.

Designed by Yabu Pushelberg, its rooms and public spaces combine clean lines with bold artworks. The cream-and-white lobby sits on the 10th floor, while guest rooms incorporate subtle Thai details and spacious bathrooms.

The Penthouse Bar & Grill occupies three upper floors, adding dining and drinking to the hotel’s appeal.

The top 10 hotels also includes Passalacqua in Italy (No. 2), Park Hyatt Chicago (No. 3), Le Méridien Essex Chicago (No. 4), The Joule in Dallas (No. 6), Thompson Denver (No. 7), Madeline Hotel & Residences, Auberge Collection in Telluride, Colorado (No. 8), and Cheval Blanc St-Tropez in France (No. 10).
