Hormuz Strait Shipping Route: The situation has again become very bad for sea vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the British Army, a cargo ship near Oman has been hit by a major projectile. After this incident, the United Nations Maritime Agency (IMO) has taken strict action. The agency has stopped its special operation to rescue the stranded ships with immediate effect.
The shocking attack came just as Iran had warned ships. Iran had said that no new route should be used at all without the approval of Tehran. IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez said the operation would be halted until safety was ensured. The ship that was attacked was not part of the list for the evacuation operation.
Iran’s direct warning
After the news of the attack, Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority has issued its new strong statement. This agency has been specially created to control the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The agency has warned that ships going outside the fixed route will not get any guarantee of safety. Due to this, the danger to merchant ships in Hormuz has increased significantly.

This new alternative sea route was jointly decided by Oman and IMO with complete safety. On Thursday morning, a large fleet of oil tankers led by the ship Stoic Warrior passed here. The fleet proceeded along the coast of the United Arab Emirates and Oman near the Musandam Peninsula. This attack has now raised serious questions on the security of these new safe routes.
Old route and impact of attack
To the north of this new route is the main corridor through which ships passed freely before the war. About one-fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas traveled around the world through this old route. The UK Maritime Trade Operation Center said that the ship suffered heavy damage in this attack near the Oman coast. However, it is a matter of relief that there is no news of anyone being injured in this serious attack.
There was a break in the evacuation operation
IMO has clarified that the evacuation will be halted until the complete safety of all ships is assured. This security assurance is very important not only for the ships included in the evacuation list but also for other ships.
