IPS Mahesh Dixit became the new Chief of Intelligence Bureau, took charge of security after the removal of Article 370 from Kashmir.

IPS Mahesh Dixit New Intelligence Bureau Chief: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Mahesh Dixit was appointed as the new director of the Intelligence Bureau on Thursday. He has taken over from the current director Tapan Kumar Deka.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approves the appointment of Mahesh Dixit; This committee is being headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mahesh Dixit is a 1993 batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. He has been appointed as IB Chief for a tenure of two years or until further orders.

Appointment committee approved

An official statement was released, in which the Appointment Committee has approved the appointment of Mahesh Dixit as the Director of Intelligence Bureau. He was currently serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau. He will now replace Tapan Kumar Deka, a 1988 batch Himachal Pradesh cadre IPS officer.

Till further orders, the tenure of Mahesh Dixit will be for two years from the date of assuming office. He has also been given extension of service for this purpose. Dixit previously served as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau and is considered one of the most experienced officers of the agency.

Performed important responsibility in Jammu and Kashmir

A significant part of his career has been spent in Jammu and Kashmir, where he headed the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau of the Intelligence Bureau in Srinagar. During this period, he monitored intelligence activities in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and played an important role in monitoring the security situation after the removal of Article 370 in 2019.

Mahesh Dixit has vast experience in counter-terrorism operations and has held many important responsibilities in the IB. He has worked to counter threats related to Pakistan-backed infiltration networks, radicalization activities and Left Wing Extremism.

The Intelligence Bureau is India’s principal internal security and intelligence agency, which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is considered to be one of the oldest intelligence agencies in the world. Its job is to gather intelligence within the country, deal with terrorism and ensure the security of critical infrastructure.
