Situation is worsening in Hormuz
Tension in the Middle East once again seems to be reaching a dangerous point. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards targeted and seized two ships on Wednesday. According to Marinetraffic website, EPAMINONDAS was heading from Jebel Ali in Dubai towards Gujarat.
This incident has happened at a time when US President Donald Trump had recently announced to extend the delicate ceasefire by two weeks, due to which the situation has become more sensitive.
According to reports, action was taken against these ships trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Even before this, incidents of targeting of ships going towards India have come to light, due to which there is a possibility of increasing tension in India-Iran relations. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy routes, where any kind of military action directly impacts global trade and oil supply. In such a situation, this action of Iran has increased concern not only at the regional but also at the international level.
This action of Iran is being seen not just as a maritime security step, but as a strong political and military message. Especially when tensions between Iran, Israel and America are already at their peak. This development has further increased the possibility of conflict in the entire region.
Which ships were seized and what are the charges?
The names of the two ships captured by IRGC are said to be ‘MSC-FRANCESCA’ and ‘EPAMINODES’. Iran alleges that these ships were operating in the maritime zone without the necessary permits and endangered maritime security by tampering with the navigation system.
The IRGC clearly stated that ‘the two offending vessels, ‘MSC-FRANCESCA’ (reported to be linked to the Zionist regime) and ‘EPAMINODES’, which endangered maritime security by operating without required permits and tampering with navigation systems, were seized by the IRGC Navy and towed to the coast of Iran.’
