Bankura. In Bankura district of West Bengal, a man has been accused of killing his wife with a sharp weapon and then killing his father as well. After the incident, the accused allegedly reached the temple with his wife's severed head and kept it there. The incident spread panic in the area. The police have arrested the accused and are trying to find out the reason behind the double murder.
The incident took place on the banks of Damodar river
The incident took place on the night of October 19 in Lalbaba Manachar area of Bankura district. This area is situated on the banks of Damodar River and falls around the border of Sonamukhi and Kankasa police station area of West Bardhaman district.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Mangal Chaudhary. He is accused of killing his 39-year-old wife Rumpa Chaudhary with a sharp weapon and beheading her. After this he also killed his 60 year old father Rajendra Chaudhary.
Rajendra's body was recovered from the courtyard of the house. At the same time, information about the woman's severed head being kept in the temple came to light. During the incident, the accused also tried to attack his brother, but he somehow escaped.
Police arrested the accused
On receiving information about the incident, police from Sonamukhi and Kankasa police stations reached the spot. The police took possession of both the bodies and started the process of sending them for post-mortem. Accused Mangal Chaudhary was also arrested.
One of his fingers was injured, due to which he was admitted to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Due to injury he could not be produced in the court immediately.
Investigation also from the angle of tantric activity
The reason behind this double murder is not clear yet. Police are investigating whether the incident was related to alleged Tantric activities or some other person had instigated the accused to do so.
Locals claimed that Mangal and his wife used to perform regular puja at a temple near the house. According to the villagers, a Tantrik also used to visit their house. However, the police have not yet confirmed any connection between the murder and occult activities.
Panic among villagers, investigation continues
The incident of murder of two members of the same family and keeping a woman's head in the temple created an atmosphere of fear in the area. Police are interrogating family members and local people. The main focus of the investigation is the reason for the murder, the circumstances preceding the incident and the role of a possible outsider.
At present the accused has been arrested, but the real reason behind the double murder will be revealed only after the police investigation is completed.
