Make semolina uttapam for children's breakfast, you will get a tremendous combination of taste and nutrition

Semolina Uttapam is an easy version of traditional Uttapam, which can be prepared with ingredients available at home. In this, curd and vegetables are used along with semolina. Its batter gets ready quickly even in the morning rush and after letting it rest for some time, it can be easily prepared on the pan.

Ingredients for making Suji Uttapam

  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1/2 cup curd
  • water as per need
  • 1 small tomato finely chopped
  • 1 small capsicum finely chopped
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 small carrot grated
  • 1 green chilli finely chopped, optional
  • some green coriander
  • salt as per taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • oil or ghee for baking

How to make Suji Uttapam

First of all, add semolina and curd in a big bowl and mix well. Prepare a thick but easily spreadable batter by adding water little by little. Keep the batter covered for about 10 to 15 minutes. This will make the semolina swell well.

Now check the batter again. If it has become too thick then adjust its consistency by adding some water. Add salt and cumin seeds to it and mix. If you are making it for children then you can leave out green chillies or keep its quantity very less.

Now add finely chopped carrots, capsicum, tomato, onion and green coriander to the batter. Cutting the vegetables very finely will make the uttapam easier for children to eat and will also reduce the effort required to take out the vegetables separately.

Bake it on the pan like this
Heat a non-stick or normal pan and apply some oil or ghee on it. Now pour a ladle of batter on the pan and do not spread it too thinly. Keep the uttapam a little thick, so that it remains soft from inside.

Pour some oil on top and let it cook on medium flame. When the bottom surface starts turning golden and the top batter is set, carefully turn it over. Cook well from the other side also. Take out the prepared semolina uttapam in a hot plate.

serve children like this
Semolina Uttapam can be served with coconut chutney, curd or any light chutney of children’s choice. Cutting it into small pieces makes it easier for children to eat.

Vegetables add fiber and many essential nutrients to it, while semolina is a source of energy-giving carbohydrates. Curd also provides protein and calcium.
