With autumn bringing forth a dip in temperature and unfortunate weather, it’s officially comfort food season. Home cooks will be rustling up hearty recipes to keep themselves warm, and one former MasterChef contestant has shared the perfect winter warmer for the job.
Dean Edwards, who was the runner-up on MasterChef in 2006, recently shared just how easy it is to make an elevated beef bourguignon at home without any fuss or mess. You won’t need to slave away over the hob; instead, you can use an overlooked appliance to deliver “hug in a bowl” results. In the video, Dean said: “Right, that’s it, I’ve given up, the heating’s on and I need some comfort food.
“And this banging slow cooker beef bourguignon is definitely gonna hit the spot.”
It’s really that simple, you won’t need to cook in a pan and slave away over the hob. Forget all the stress, and ditch the pan for a slow cooker instead.
The beauty of using the slow cooker is that you can chuck all of the ingredients in the pot and leave the appliance to work its magic. Dean uses beef cheeks in his recipe, which works incredibly well when slow-cooking.
To ensure the beef is tender and thicken up the sauce, Dean recommended coating the meat in corn flour. He continued: “My beef bourguignon is a proper hug in a bowl. And just look at how tender this meat is.”
Dean’s video has already been viewed over 48,400 times, receiving 1,320 likes and 17 comments, at the time of writing. Lily said, “Mine’s in the slow cooker as we speak, smells amazing.”
A second wrote: “Looks so good, I’m going to give that a try.”
Di commented, “Right up my street this,” while another agreed, “Looks bloody lovely.”
So if you’re looking for a simple and mess-free recipe to get you through the chilly autumn days, here’s how you can recreate Dean’s recipe at home.

Dust the beef cheeks in the corn flour and knock off any excess. Pop all of the ingredients into the slow cooker pot, then stir to make sure everything is well combined.
