Huge anger among the energy corporations of UP: Statewide work boycott announced on May 7, ‘Satyagraha’ echoed in the districts
Lucknow. Contract employees working in the energy sector of Uttar Pradesh have raised the alarm for an all-out fight for their demands. On the call of Electricity Contract Employees Federation Uttar Pradesh, today contract workers in all the districts of the state demonstrated their solidarity by doing ‘Satyagraha’. This protest was organized by Energy Minister Shri A.K. This was done in the context of the earlier notice given to Sharma, in which the employees had strongly demanded to include the contract workers of energy corporations in the newly formed ‘Outsource Corporation’ by the state government. The employees clearly say that if their demands are not considered sympathetically by May 7, 2026, then they will boycott work by bringing the electricity system of the entire state to a standstill.
Management’s indifference towards announcements made in the Assembly
Federation President and senior labor leader R.S. On this occasion, Rai raised strong questions on the working style of the Power Corporation management. He reminded that the Honorable Chief Minister himself had announced from the floor of the Assembly that middlemen (contractors) would be removed from among the contract workers of the state, they would be paid salaries directly by the department, honorarium would be increased and payment of EPF would also be ensured directly by the department.
Rai alleged that despite this clear intention of the Chief Minister, the management of the Power Corporation wants to keep the contractual employees of the Energy Corporation out of the proposed outsourced corporation, which is not only a disregard of government orders but also a sheer injustice to thousands of employees.
Decisive fight against exploitation and retrenchment
State in-charge of the federation, Puneet Rai, while describing the ground reality, said that at present the contract workers are troubled by the exploitation of contractors and illegal retrenchments happening every day. He stressed that to secure the future of these employees and to root out the middleman system, it has become mandatory to bring them under the ambit of outsourced corporation.
At the same time, Vimal Chandra Pandey, President of Electricity Workers Organization Uttar Pradesh and media in-charge of the federation, while giving a final warning to the government and management, said that the work boycott of May 7 is just a beginning. If even after this the contract workers do not get justice and their legitimate demands are ignored, then the energy workers across the state will be forced to go on indefinite work boycott, for which the entire responsibility will be on the government and administration.
