Huge uproar in Thakurdwara over demolition of Ambedkar statue, FIR lodged against 162 including BJP leader Ajay Pratap
The controversy that arose after the demolition of the statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar in Thakurdwara of Moradabad district has now turned into a big legal and political battle. There is huge tension in the area after this incident which took place in Narayanpur Chhanga village of Thakurdwara. Taking major action in this matter, the police have registered a case against 162 people including Ajay Pratap Singh, who was the BJP candidate from Thakurdwara Assembly in the year 2022, and his brother. There is silence in the streets of the village, but the heavy presence of police and the visits of political leaders have heated up the atmosphere.
In factThis whole controversy started after an event organized on 14th April. It is alleged that some unruly elements damaged the statue of Baba Saheb, after which the situation went out of control. The protests turned violent and there were reports of vandalism, stone pelting and even firing.
Legal crackdown on BJP leader and 150 unknown people
The police has adopted a strict stance regarding this violence and damage to the statue. On the complaint of Malkhan Singh, a resident of Narayanpur Chhanga village, the police have named BJP leader Ajay Pratap Singh, his brother Abhay Pratap Singh, Tej Prakash, Nipendra, Hitanshu, Tushar, Surya Pratap, Narendra, Rajiv, Mahesh, Harshit and Kaushal. Apart from this, an FIR has also been registered against about 150 unknown people.
A case has been registered against all these accused under serious sections of stone pelting, firing, molestation, rioting, house breaking, threatening to kill and most importantly SC/ST Act. Police say that other accused are being identified on the basis of CCTV footage and local witnesses and arrests will start soon.
Village transformed into cantonment, political activity intensifies
The situation in the village has remained very sensitive since the incident. The administration has deployed heavy police force along with PAC in the village as a precautionary measure. The entire area currently looks like a cantonment. Officials say that no one will be allowed to take law into their hands. However, in the meanwhile the damaged statue has been repaired, but the bitterness and anger in the hearts of the people has not calmed down yet.
At the same time, this matter has now taken a political colour. After the name of the BJP leader came out, the opposition parties have become attackers.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) says that the police is investigating every aspect closely. Any person who disturbs the law and order will not be spared, no matter which party he is associated with. At present, the police is patrolling the village and people are being appealed to maintain peace. Now it remains to be seen how long and what action the police will take against the big faces named in this case.
