Hugo Larsson Joins Fulham from Eintracht Frankfurt on Deadline Day
Fulham have completed the signing of Sweden international midfielder Hugo Larsson from Eintracht Frankfurt, bringing the highly rated 22-year-old to the Premier League on transfer deadline day.
Larsson initially joins Fulham on loan, but the agreement includes an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met, meaning the move is structured to become permanent. Fulham have also agreed a long-term contract that will come into effect once the permanent transfer is triggered.
Fulham Beat Competition for Larsson
The move comes after a late battle for Larsson’s signature, with Crystal Palace also strongly interested in the Swedish midfielder. Fulham ultimately moved quickly to complete the deal before the transfer window closed.
Reports put the overall transfer package at up to €25 million (£21.4 million), although the exact conditions attached to the obligation have not been fully disclosed by the clubs.
A Major Step in Larsson’s Career
Larsson joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Malmö FF in 2023 and quickly established himself as an important part of the Bundesliga side’s midfield.
During his three years in Frankfurt, he made 119 competitive appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists. He also earned 12 senior caps for Sweden.
His performances in Germany attracted growing interest from Premier League clubs, with his ability to operate as both a defensive midfielder and a box-to-box No. 8 making him an attractive option.
What Larsson Brings to Fulham
Larsson is known for his energy, intelligent positioning, progressive passing and ability to cover large areas of the pitch.
Fulham’s official announcement describes him as a hard-working central midfielder who can operate as either a No. 6 or No. 8. His reading of the game and physical capacity are expected to add another dimension to Fulham’s midfield options.
The signing also fits Fulham’s efforts to add younger talent to their squad while maintaining a competitive first-team group.
Larsson’s Reaction to the Move
Larsson expressed his excitement after completing the switch to London.
“Obviously, it’s a very proud moment for me and my family – I’m honoured to be here,” the midfielder said after joining Fulham.
He also highlighted the club’s history, describing the opportunity to join the oldest club in London as a major honour.
Frankfurt Say Goodbye to a Key Player
Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche paid tribute to Larsson after the transfer.
The club described the Swede as one of its key first-team players over the previous three seasons and credited him with playing an important role in Frankfurt’s success.
Larsson had signed a contract extension with Frankfurt in October 2024 that was due to keep him at the club until 2029, but the late Premier League move brought his three-year spell in Germany to an end.
A New Challenge in the Premier League
The move to Fulham gives Larsson the opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues. At just 22, he still has considerable room to develop, while Fulham have secured a midfielder who already has extensive Bundesliga and international experience.
For Frankfurt, the deal represents a significant transfer return on a player they signed from Malmö in 2023. For Fulham, it is another investment in a young player with the potential to become an important part of the club’s midfield for years to come.
Larsson’s next chapter now begins at Craven Cottage, with the Swedish midfielder ready for his first taste of Premier League football.
