Humayun Kabir proposed to Mamata, ‘You contest the by-election from my seat, I will support you’, said – Whatever I am, I am because of you.
Kolkata. There was a surprising turn in the politics of West Bengal on Thursday and a relief news for TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee. Humayun Kabir, founder of ‘Aam Janata Unnayan Party’ (AJUP) has proposed to bring Mamata Banerjee back to the assembly. He has invited Mamta to contest elections from Rezinagar seat of Murshidabad. Which he had earlier announced for his son. He cited Abhishek as the main reason for the current condition of the party. This is the same Humayun Kabir who a few months ago had separated from TMC and vowed to topple the Mamata government. Let us tell you that after separating from TMC, Humayun Kabir formed his own party Aam Janata Unnayan Party. He contested elections from two seats, Rejinagar and Nauda, and won both the seats.

Ritabrata and Sandipan betrayed Mamata Banerjee
He further said that Ritabrata and Sandipan have betrayed Mamata Banerjee. Mamata should continue in parliamentary politics and they are offering her the seat from Rejinagar. Humayun Kabir has won from two seats, Nauda and Rezinagar in Murshidabad district in the 2026 assembly elections. According to election rules, he will have to give up one seat. Kabir said that he is ready to vacate the Rejinagar seat. After his resignation, there will be a by-election in which Mamata Banerjee can contest.
Kabir himself will resign in Rejinagar and ensure his victory.
Talking to reporters, Kabir said that if Mamata Banerjee comes to him, he can send her to the assembly from Rejinagar. He also said that if Mamata contests elections from Nandigram, she will not be able to win from there. But in Rejinagar, Kabir himself will resign and ensure their victory. This development has come at a time when Mamata Banerjee is facing the biggest crisis of her political life. TMC has lost the elections and there has been a major rebellion in this 28 year old party. Current Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari has vacated the Nandigram seat and has retained the Bhawanipur seat. Shubhendu had defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhawanipur itself.

Humayun Kabir is considered an influential Muslim leader of Murshidabad. Last year, he was expelled from TMC after a dispute with the party leadership. After this he formed his own party and became the biggest critic of Mamata government. They had been continuously demanding the removal of the government.
Today no one may listen to Mamta, but in Rejinagar, Humayun Kabir’s word is the last.
However, now Kabir’s tone seems to have changed. Expressing sympathy towards Mamata Banerjee, he said that he feels very sad to see the situation Mamata is in today. He said emotionally that whatever he is today is because of Mamata Banerjee. Along with this he also claimed his power. He said that even if no one listens to Mamta today, in Rejinagar the word of Humayun Kabir is the last.
This is a great irony. The leader who was trying to oust Mamata Banerjee from power for a year is now showing the way to bring her back to the House. It is still uncertain what decision Mamata Banerjee will take on this proposal. But this proposal has sparked a new discussion in the politics of the state.
