Hyundai has added a Knight edition to the updated Exter range, with prices starting at Rs 8.13 lakh and going up to Rs 9.60 lakh, ex-showroom. The new version is essentially a styling package built around the HX6 and HX10 grades rather than a mechanical upgrade.
There are four combinations. The HX6 Knight petrol manual costs Rs 8.13 lakh, while the HX6 petrol AMT is Rs 8.73 lakh. The HX6 Hy-CNG Duo manual is priced at Rs 9.09 lakh. At the top, the HX10 Knight petrol AMT costs Rs 9.60 lakh.
The Knight does not begin from the base trim. Hyundai has placed it higher up the range where customers are already paying for more equipment and may be more willing to spend extra for a different look.
The theme is straightforward: remove most of the bright detailing and darken the car.
The Exter and Hyundai logos at the front and rear are finished in matte black. The front and rear bumper garnishes, along with the side sill garnishes, switch to dark grey. Depending on the variant, the car gets either 15-inch black alloy wheels or dark grey styled steel wheels.
Red front brake calipers provide the main colour contrast, while a Knight badge identifies the edition. Hyundai is offering five exterior colours: Titanium Black, Atlas White, Starry Night, Titan Grey and Golden Bronze.
It does not have to be a black car. Atlas White or Golden Bronze with the dark trim should make the blacked-out pieces more obvious.
Hyundai has made more than a token change inside. The regular 2026 Exter uses a Navy and Grey cabin theme, while the Knight switches to an all-black interior with brass-coloured accents.
It also gets black semi-fabric seat upholstery. Amber footwell lighting and a black D-cut steering wheel are available on selected versions. The combination gives the Knight a noticeably different cabin ambience without changing the basic dashboard architecture or seating layout.
Equipment still depends on whether the customer chooses HX6 or HX10. The Knight badge does not automatically bring every feature available on the Exter. It is primarily a design treatment applied to existing grades.
The powertrain line-up remains unchanged. Petrol versions use Hyundai’s 1.2-litre four-cylinder Kappa engine, offered with either a five-speed manual gearbox or the Smart Auto AMT. The same engine is also available in bi-fuel petrol-CNG form with a five-speed manual gearbox.
The petrol engine produces 83 PS and 113.8 Nm in the regular Exter, so customers should not expect the red brake calipers or Knight badges to come with extra performance.
That is probably the right decision. The Exter Knight is aimed at customers who like the compact SUV’s basic package but want it to look less conventional.
Hyundai says more than one lakh Knight models have been sold since the theme was introduced in 2022. That helps explain why the treatment has spread across its SUV range.
The timing also makes sense for the Exter. Hyundai updated the model in March 2026 with redesigned bumpers and grille, new 15-inch alloys, refreshed cabin trim, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and more standard safety equipment. The Knight now gives that updated car a second visual personality without requiring another major product change.
At Rs 8.13 lakh to Rs 9.60 lakh, the Exter Knight is easy to understand. There is no new engine, suspension tune or special performance claim. Customers are paying for blacked-out exterior pieces, a darker cabin and a more distinctive factory-finished look.
For someone already considering an HX6 or HX10, that may be enough. For everyone else, the standard Exter continues to offer the same basic mechanical package for less money.
