Many film personalities have expressed concern over Wangchuk’s long-running hunger strike and deteriorating health. Now actress and environmental activist Dia Mirza has also openly expressed her support through social media. He has supported the right to peaceful protest by expressing his support not only to Wangchuk but also to others protesting with him.
Sonam Wangchuk was on hunger strike for the last 21 days. After his health continued to deteriorate, on July 18, the police removed him from Jantar Mantar and admitted him to the hospital. After this incident, many celebrities responded in his support on social media and appealed to the government to find a solution through talks.
Sharing a post on her official Instagram account, Dia Mirza wrote that she had stood with the students of the country before and will continue to support them in future also. She said that she listens to the voices of the students, understands their concerns and stands strongly with them. The actress also supported the demand for accountability, transparency and necessary reforms in the education system.
In her message, Dia Mirza wrote that she respects the right to protest in a peaceful and democratic manner. He said that in any democracy, citizens should have the right to express their views and put forward their demands in a peaceful manner. He also announced his support to Sonam Wangchuk as well as Neha, Amin and Manish associated with the movement.
Dia Mirza is not the only actress to come out in support of Wangchuk. Earlier, many film personalities including musician Vishal Dadlani, actor Aamir Khan, Abhay Deol, Omi Vaidya, Aayush Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Soni Razdan and Sonakshi Sinha have also expressed their concern and support on social media. Many of these artists have also appealed to Wangchuk to end the hunger strike by giving priority to health, while urging the government to initiate dialogue with the protesters.
