‘I will not speak in Marathi’, why did Sahar Shaikh say this in the press conference?
These days, there is a fierce battle in the politics of Maharashtra regarding caste certificates and now the heat of this controversy has reached Mumbra in Thane. AIMIM councilor Sahar Shaikh and her father Yunus Shaikh have faced serious allegations of winning elections through fake OBC certificates. On Tuesday, Sahar Sheikh came in front of the media to give her clarification on this issue, but instead of resolving the controversy, this press conference has given rise to a new debate.
In fact, Sahar Shaikh not only rejected the allegations against her, but also flatly refused to speak in Marathi language during the press conference. In an area like Thane, where there is sensitivity regarding the local language, this stance of Sahar Shaikh has now become a topic of discussion. During this, he took a sharp jibe at his opponents and said, “I liked the fear that has created panic among the opponents.”
Documents presented in press conference with father
For a long time, the opposition camp was mobilizing against Sahar Sheikh and was accusing her of obtaining the backward class certificate fraudulently. After these allegations, Sahar Sheikh’s father Yunus Sheikh himself took charge and announced to address the media. In this press conference held on Tuesday, Sahar’s father claimed that his daughter’s certificate is completely genuine and it has been obtained from the Tehsildar office as per the rules.
Father Yunus Shaikh, while showing the documents to the media, said that his daughter is being targeted due to political hatred. He clearly said that he has all the legal evidence and he is ready to face any investigation. However, when the journalists present there requested Sahar Sheikh to say something in Marathi, she flatly refused, due to which the atmosphere got a bit heated.
‘I will see in court’, Sahar Shaikh challenged her opponents
Sahar Sheikh fiercely attacked her opponents during the press conference. He said that tall claims were made against him and he was even declared ‘absconding’. Expressing her views, Sahar Sheikh said, “We are people who believe in the Constitution and have full faith in the law. I will now face those who have complained against me and made false allegations in the court.”
It is being told that Sahar Sheikh is now preparing to fight this case legally. He alleged that some people, upset with his growing political stature, are trying to cancel his membership. Sahar confidently said that she is liking the ‘fear’ that her opponents are feeling and she is not going to back down.
New controversy arose regarding Marathi language
‘Marathi identity’ has always been a big issue in Maharashtra politics. In such a situation, Sahar Shaikh’s refusal to speak in Marathi as a public representative may have political implications at the local level. According to local people, in areas like Mumbra and Thane, it is considered a normal expectation for the councilor to communicate with the public and media in the local language.
At present, Sahar Sheikh and her father have tried to prove themselves innocent through papers, but the matter is now about to reach the threshold of the court. It will be interesting to see in the coming days what turn this caste certificate fight takes and how the opposition parties capitalize on Sahar Shaikh’s ‘Marathi denial’ stance.
