World Earth Day: A day of resolution to save our earth amidst environmental crisis, CM Dr. Mohan Yadav called for nature conservation.

“World Earth Day” is being celebrated across the world today. This day has become a symbol of global consciousness for environmental protection amidst climate change, pollution and continuous degradation of natural resources. On this occasion, awareness programs, tree plantation drives and cleanliness drives are being organized in different countries.

CM Dr. Mohan Yadav has today called upon the people of the state to adopt a nature-friendly lifestyle, use resources in moderation and plant as many trees as possible. He said, “Protection of the earth on which one was born is the supreme duty of every citizen. Water, forest and land will have to be kept safe and prosperous at all costs for the coming generations. This is the true service to humanity.”

History of World Earth Day

The first World Earth Day was organized in America on 22 April 1970. It was conceived by Senator Gaylord Nelson from Wisconsin, USA. In fact, the terrible oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969 shocked Gaylord Nelson. He realized that a massive mass movement was needed to bring the environment on the national agenda, after which this day was celebrated. For the first time, about 2 crore people participated in it. Due to the influence of this movement, many laws related to environmental protection were made in America and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was established. Since 1990, the movement has spread globally and today it is celebrated in more than 190 countries.

Purpose and importance of this day

The main objective of Earth Day is to make people aware of environmental problems and inspire them to conserve the earth. The purpose of this day is to make people aware of serious environmental problems like pollution, deforestation, and global warming. Under this, special emphasis is given on issues like tackling climate change, reducing plastic pollution, conserving biodiversity and promoting clean energy. It is a powerful platform to inspire governments globally to enact pro-environmental laws and take concrete steps towards environmental protection.

According to experts, the importance of Earth Day has increased in the present times. Continuously rising global temperatures, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, air and water pollution and declining numbers of wildlife are matters of serious concern. Indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources has created a crisis for future generations. This day reminds us that protecting the environment is our collective responsibility and small steps of every individual can be a part of big change.
