Tahir Hussain will challenge the Karkardooma Court’s decision in the High Court. After the sentencing, Tahir Hussain told reporters while leaving the court, “I will get justice from the High Court.” Earlier, the lawyer for the accused had requested leniency in their sentence, citing their families as dependents, but the court rejected this appeal. The Delhi Police and the victim’s family had demanded the death penalty for all the accused. Previously, on July 13, 2026, the Karkardooma Court convicted five accused, including Tahir Hussain, for the murder of the IB officer. However, the court acquitted six accused due to lack of evidence.
During the 2020 protests against the CAA, riots broke out in Delhi. IB officer Ankit Sharma went missing on February 25, 2020. The following day, on February 26, his mutilated body was recovered from the Khajuri Khas drain near the Chandbagh culvert. The post-mortem report revealed 51 injuries on his body, including 12 stab wounds on his thighs, legs, chest, and back. Furthermore, Ankit Sharma had suffered multiple blows to his head and body with heavy objects, such as rods and sticks.
