ICC announces ODI rankings for the entire year, Team India at number 1

New Delhi, 12 May 2026: The International Cricket Council has announced the annual update in the ODI team rankings. Team India has dominated the year-long rankings, five points ahead of second-placed New Zealand. India has lost one point, while New Zealand has gained two points. Pakistan has also lost places in the rankings, while defending ODI world champion Australia has remained at the third position.

Most of the teams have maintained their positions in the top 10. Only South Africa has made significant gains, pushing Pakistan to fourth place. Meanwhile, Pakistan has slipped one place to fifth position. It is also noteworthy that the eighth ranked teams (England), ninth (Bangladesh) and tenth (West Indies) are far behind in terms of points. Ireland, USA and UAE have moved ahead in the ranking to reach 11th, 13th and 19th position respectively.

It is noteworthy that Team India is also the world number one team in T20I. They are 13 points ahead of second-ranked England. If we look at the ODI batting rankings, there are four Indians in the top 10: Virat Kohli (2), Rohit Sharma (4), Shubhman Gill (5) and KL Rahul (9).

Eye on qualifying for 2027 ODI World Cup

South Africa and Zimbabwe, as hosts, will qualify directly for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Apart from South Africa and Zimbabwe, the top eight teams in the ODI rankings will qualify directly based on their ranking. The other four teams will try to reach the World Cup through the ongoing qualification tournament.
