ICC’s big action against Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz, along with suspension for doping violation, individual records of many matches were also canceled.
New Delhi . The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken disciplinary action against Pakistan cricket team’s spin bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz for violating anti-doping rules. The player has been suspended after admitting a rule violation after being found to have a banned substance in a doping test. Along with this, records related to his individual performance during a specified period have also been officially declared invalid. This decision has once again clarified the ICC’s strict policy regarding doping rules in international cricket.
According to the information, Mohammad Nawaz’s dope test was done after an international match played in February 2026. The ICC reviewed the case after a banned substance was found in the investigation report. The player cooperated with the investigation process and admitted the violation of the rules and also clarified that the substance in question was consumed out of competition and was not intended to enhance sports performance. Keeping these facts in mind, the ICC took action in accordance with its anti-doping provisions.
As per ICC’s decision, Mohammad Nawaz was suspended for three months. However, the rules of the Council also provide that if the player successfully completes the prescribed rehabilitation and de-addiction program and follows all the conditions, then the period of punishment can be reduced. Under this arrangement, Nawaz is also likely to get relief. This process will depend entirely on the ICC’s review and satisfaction.
An important aspect of this case is that the individual records of the players in the relevant period are not recognized under the doping rules. For this reason, the individual performances recorded by Mohammad Nawaz from the match played on 7 February 2026 till the temporary suspension came into effect have been removed from the official records. This will only impact individual player statistics, while ICC rules on aspects related to team results apply on a case-by-case basis.
Sports experts believe that maintaining transparency and fairness in doping cases at the international level is the primary responsibility of any sports organization. It is with this objective that the ICC adopts regular dope testing, independent investigations and a clear disciplinary process to maintain the integrity of the game and the fairness of the competition. Players are also provided with the list of banned substances and information about anti-doping rules from time to time.
The case of Mohammad Nawaz also shows that the ICC’s policy is not limited to punishment alone, but also gives importance to the opportunity for rehabilitation. If the player successfully completes the prescribed corrective programme, he may get relief as per the rules. At present the ICC’s decision in this matter is in force and the further process will be completed as per the guidelines laid down by the Council. The cricket world will now keep an eye on when the players are able to return to competitive cricket after completing the rehabilitation process.
