Customers will have to download Indian Oil’s ‘Indian Oil One’, Bharat Petroleum’s ‘Hello BPCL’ or HP’s ‘H Pay’ app as per their convenience. In that, they will have to go to the e-KYC option. E-KYC can be done through face recognition.
If you cannot do it online, you can also do e-KYC offline. In that case, you will have to go to the distributor’s office. E-KYC can be done through face recognition or retina scan.
In the case of elderly or disabled consumers, the LPG distributor may arrange for a biometric verification process by sending a staff member to their home.
In case of changing the name of the consumer, e-KYC must be done first:
If the child is the heir, then the documents will have to be taken to the gas distributor’s office. The name will be changed only after applying.
Again, if a relative applies, it will not be done only in the documents. The customer’s consent will be required.
Again, in case of changing the address, the ‘Termination and Transfer Voucher’ will have to be collected from the distributor. It will have to be submitted to the new distributor. Only then will the cooking gas reach the new address. E-KYC must be done after changing the name and address.
If e-KYC is not done, the cylinder will have to be bought from the open market. Which costs almost 3 times. At the moment, the price of a 14 kg cylinder in Kolkata is 968 taka. Customers get an additional subsidy of 300 taka on Ujjwala Yojana gas. If e-KYC is not done, Ujjwala Yojana gas will not be available. It is learnt that oil companies are pressuring gas dealers to get their customers e-KYC done. However, the majority of customers have already completed the process. Why is e-KYC being done? According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, although there is a huge demand for cooking gas across the country, a large portion of them are using household gas in commercial sectors in an unscrupulous manner. Even subsidized cylinders allocated for households are sometimes smuggled to hotels, restaurants or factories.
