South-West Monsoon (Monsoon 2026) has gained full momentum in most parts of the country, due to which the next 24 hours are going to be very sensitive for many states. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), while releasing the latest weather bulletin for July 14, has issued a red/orange alert of extremely heavy rain in Bihar and Odisha.
Apart from this, more than 10 states of the country including North-East India, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh have been warned of torrential rain, lightning and strong storm with a speed of 50 km/hour.
Big warning for Bihar and Odisha: fear of flood like situation
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a strong possibility of heavy rains due to torrential rains in different districts of Bihar and Odisha on July 14.

Crisis in urban and rural areas: Due to this continuous heavy rain, situations like severe waterlogging in low-lying areas, sinking of major roads and flash floods at local level can occur.

Administration advice: Meteorologists have given strict instructions to the citizens of these two states not to come out of their homes unless there is urgent work and to stay in safe places.
Alert of torrential rain in these 10 states
The 10 states of the country where IMD has predicted heavy rain on July 14 and has asked people to remain alert are as follows:

Eastern and Central India: Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Sikkim.

North-East India: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Threat of lightning: In all these states, there is a possibility of heavy rain along with massive lightning and severe thunderstorms.

Uttar Pradesh: There will be light to moderate rain in UP at this time, but the Meteorological Department has predicted that Monsoon may again become severe in Eastern Uttar Pradesh (Purvanchal) between July 17 and 19.which will cause heavy rain there.
Situation in Central, South and North-East India

Constant trouble: Due to continuous rains for several days in the North-Eastern states (Assam-Meghalaya), the risk of sudden floods and landslides is at its peak. Heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of Meghalaya.

Central India: There will be heavy rain in Chhattisgarh on 14 and 15 July, while there will be rain and thundershowers in Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.

South India: There will be light to moderate rain in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. However, due to local diplomatic reasons, anomalous warning of heat wave has been issued at some places in coastal Andhra Pradesh, while humidity will continue in Odisha and Tamil Nadu.
Ban for fishermen from going to sea
IMD has warned of extremely bad weather in many parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The wind speed over the sea can reach 45 to 55 kilometers per hour and with gusts up to 65 kilometers per hour. In view of the high waves in the sea, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into deep water for the next few days.
