‘Rahul Gandhi should also go to Jantar Mantar’, Uddhav Thackeray’s appeal on Sonam Wangchuk’s movement
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has appealed to Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to join the students’ movement going on at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He said that if the youth of the country are concerned about the issues then all political parties and leaders should come forward in support of this protest. Uddhav Thackeray also said that he himself will go to Delhi on July 20 and join the movement. Sonam Wangchuk is currently on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.
In the press conference held in Mumbai on Monday, Uddhav Thackeray said, ‘I will also go to Jantar Mantar. Rahul Gandhi should also go there. Those who have faith in the youth of the country should support this movement. People of the entire country should come out on the streets and stand with them. After his statement, the political stir regarding the ongoing movement at Jantar Mantar has intensified.

What is Jantar Mantar movement?
An indefinite strike by an organization named Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is going on at Jantar Mantar in Delhi since June 20. Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk is also involved in this movement. The organization is headed by Abhijeet Dipke. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over various examination irregularities, including the NEET-UG paper leak. He says that the future of lakhs of students is being affected due to continuous irregularities in the examination system.
Rahul Gandhi is running ‘Students’ Echo’ campaign
On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi is running ‘Students’ Echo’ campaign on issues related to students. Raising questions on corruption, paper leaks and chaos in the education system, he said that the current system has promoted ‘paper leak mafia’, due to which the future of lakhs of students is being affected. Rahul has also demanded comprehensive reforms in the education system and action against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Many opposition parties support CJP
This movement has received the support of many leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Left parties. AAP’s Sanjay Singh and Atishi, TMC’s Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad, CPI(M)’s MA Baby, Brinda Karat and senior Kerala leader KK Shailaja have reached Jantar Mantar or publicly supported the movement. However, Congress has not yet officially announced its support for this movement. Some party leaders have definitely reached the protest site but the top leadership including Rahul Gandhi has not yet participated in it.
