IMD Weather Alert: Heavy rain and storm 80 km/h in 13 states

The weather is going to take a turn once again amidst the scorching heat in India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning in 13 states of the country for June 12.

New Delhi: Amidst the scorching heat in many parts of the country, the weather has once again shown signs of taking a turn. According to India Meteorological Department, on June 12, an alert has been issued regarding heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds in about 13 states including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. There is a possibility of strong storm blowing at a speed of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour in these areas, due to which the possibility of falling of trees, disruption of power supply and other damages may increase. There is also a danger of thunder and lightning in many parts of Eastern India.

Yellow and orange alert in 13 states

The states where the Meteorological Department has issued an alert include:

  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Bihar
  • Delhi
  • Punjab
  • Haryana
  • Rajasthan
  • Uttarakhand
  • Himachal Pradesh
  • Jammu and Kashmir
  • Jharkhand
  • west bengal
  • Odisha
  • Madhya Pradesh

Heavy rain, thunder and storm conditions may occur in different areas in these states.

How are the weather systems changing?

According to IMD, in many parts of the country:

  • cyclonic circulation in the upper atmosphere
  • pressure field at lower tropospheric level
  • and active weather systems

Due to these reasons, sudden changes in weather are being seen. Despite the temperature being above 45°C in some areas, heavy rains and stormy winds are becoming active simultaneously.

Delhi-NCR: Relief from heat but also danger

The Meteorological Department has warned of strong storm and rain in the national capital Delhi on June 12.

  • Maximum Temperature: 32°C
  • Minimum Temperature: 26°C
  • Wind Speed: 60–70 km/h

Due to strong winds, there is a possibility of trees falling and traffic disruption in some areas.

Uttar Pradesh: Alert of heavy rain in many districts

In Uttar Pradesh, alert has been issued in many districts including Agra, Mathura, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Sonbhadra.

  • Wind Speed: 65–70 km/h
  • Lucknow Temperature: 33°C (day) / 30°C (night)

The possibility of lightning and thunder is said to be high in eastern UP.

Bihar: Weather will remain active for 48 hours

There is a possibility of heavy rain and storm in many districts of Bihar between June 12 and 13. Affected districts: Patna, Gaya, Bhojpur, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, West Champaran etc.

  • Wind Speed: Up to 70 km/h
  • Patna Temperature: 36°C / 28°C

Danger of lightning in Jharkhand and Eastern India

There is a possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorm in many districts of Jharkhand including Ranchi, Deoghar, Giridih and East Singhbhum.

  • Wind Speed: 50 km/h
  • More danger of lightning

Warning of heavy rain in hilly states

Incessant rains and risk of landslides may increase in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

  • Uttarakhand: Winds up to 60 km/h
  • Himachal: Gale up to 70 km/h
  • Jammu and Kashmir: 50 km/h winds

Those traveling in tourist areas have been advised to take special precautions.

Stormy weather in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh

Warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm has also been issued in many parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

  • Rajasthan:

    • Wind Speed: 60–65 km/h
    • Jaipur Temperature: 37°C / 24°C

  • Madhya Pradesh:

    • Wind Speed: 55–60 km/h
    • Bhopal Temperature: 37°C / 25°C

On one hand, the scorching heat continues across the country, while on the other hand, the latest alert from IMD shows that the weather can suddenly take a dangerous turn in many states. The next 24 to 48 hours will be very important, where strong storm and rain can affect life.
