Ranchi. Heavy security alert was observed during the main state function of Independence Day 2026 in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Chief Minister Hemant Soren's security route had to be suddenly changed amid the ongoing student agitation over alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations. The administration took this step out of caution in view of intelligence information and the possible demonstration of students.

The convoy was taken out via Kachari Chowk.
As per the pre-planned programme, the Chief Minister was to proceed directly to Shaheed Chowk i.e. Albert Ekka Chowk after hoisting the flag at Morhabadi Maidan. However, in view of the continuous hunger strike and protest by students at the Chief Minister's residence and the surrounding main roads, the security agencies changed the route at the last moment. Amidst the security cordon, the Chief Minister's convoy was taken to Shaheed Chowk from Morhabadi via Kachari Chowk and after the program he was returned through this safe route.
Area transformed into a fort, common public worried
The students had warned of gheraoing the Chief Minister's residence, after which the entire area turned into a police camp. According to the information received, due to security reasons, the officials had barricaded 500 meters before the CM residence, due to which the movement of vehicles on the roads leading to Morabadi, Kanke Road and Karamtoli came to a complete halt. Due to this sudden route diversion and blockage, there was a huge traffic jam on the roads of the capital on the festival day, due to which the common commuters had to face a lot of problems.

Candidates are adamant on their demands
For the last 20 days, the candidates who have been standing at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and on the streets are adamant on the demand of cancellation of the examinations and a CBI inquiry into the entire matter. Due to several rounds of talks between the government and the students remaining inconclusive, the movement is continuously taking an aggressive form, keeping in mind that the administration had to make unprecedented security arrangements to ensure the safe completion of the Independence Day celebrations.
