Why is pilgrimage important?
Importance Of Pilgrimage: In today’s modern fast-paced life, people are so busy that they do not have time for themselves. In such a situation, leave alone going on pilgrimage, people have forgotten to even think about it. Even if people go on pilgrimage today, it is for entertainment or time pass. It seems as if the purpose and importance of pilgrimage is disappearing. Why is pilgrimage done and what is its purpose? Know from this article-
India is a country where we have given the status of pilgrimage not only to the religious places but also to the devotees, gurus and parents. We call a devotee a pilgrim because the devotee, who is absorbed in the devotion of God, is in itself a form of pilgrimage. God resides in the hearts of such people. When such devotees visit the pilgrimage sites, the pilgrimages also become Mahatirthas. Just as the sun illuminates during the day, the moon illuminates at night. A lamp illuminates the house and removes darkness from the house, similarly the Guru always spreads light in the hearts of his disciples day and night. He destroys the darkness of ignorance of his disciples.
That is why we also call Guru a Tirtha. Similarly, in this world and the next world there is no place of pilgrimage like that of parents. One who has not worshiped and served his parents, his study of Vedas and scriptures is useless. For children, worship of parents is religion, it is pilgrimage, it is salvation. His welfare is possible only through his service. Despite considering all these as forms of pilgrimage, traveling to religious places has its own importance. It is true that pilgrimage is related to a spiritual and holy place, no matter in what form it is a temple, river, ghat, dham etc., no matter what religion, caste or country it belongs to, people go to those places to bless themselves, take bath or visit the place of their choice. People also do charity at such places. They have only one belief behind all this and that is freedom from sins, freedom from the bondage of births or to make one’s life blessed. But apart from these reasons, there are many other reasons for which pilgrimage is not only necessary but also beneficial.
center of energy- Often this question arises in the mind that God is present everywhere, in the body, in the house and in the temple. Then why go on pilgrimage? Just as every room in the house has its own importance, similarly pilgrimage places on earth also have their own importance. Have you ever wondered why we don’t take bath in the kitchen? Or why not eat in the bathroom? And when God is present everywhere and in everyone, then why do we go to the temple? Because wherever we do our daily work, the same kind of feelings, fragrance, waves and energy etc. start flowing there. Which helps us to transform. That is why the energy that flows at pilgrimage sites is more effective and sacred than other places. This is the reason why thousands of devotees and devotees automatically get mesmerized at such places. The view there, the people engrossed in bhajan and kirtan, away from the urban world, infuse spirituality in the mind due to which the mind becomes light and stress free.
Healthy – Pilgrimage is also beneficial from health point of view because wherever there is pilgrimage, the environment there is very clean and picturesque. The vegetation there provides relief and coolness to the eyes. Constant walking, climbing up and down stairs and singing bhajans and kirtans with applause puts pressure on the palms and soles, which is called acupressure, which cures many diseases. Satvik food and fruits keep the stomach healthy.
Along with health, pilgrimage also increases our spiritual, geographical and historical knowledge. People who come in contact during the journey also increase their knowledge and information through their experiences and conversations.
There is regularity in the routine of eating, sleeping, waking up etc. which is necessary to run life smoothly. Personality also improves through rules and morality. Through fasting, years old constipation and many physical disorders related to constipation are cured. New environment gives new thinking, new ideas and enthusiasm which removes dullness and laziness, which leads to proper circulation of blood in the body and also provides relief from heart related diseases.
Enlightening-Along with health, pilgrimage also increases our spiritual, geographical and historical knowledge.
The history of the places visited during the journey comes to the fore. There is knowledge of art, culture, tradition etc. related to them. All this heritage points to our former richness. These paths and the walls of temples tell the entire story of the stories and tales that we had ever read in books or heard in our childhood. The spiritual and scientific importance of small things emerges in front of us and superstitions are exposed and the truth is revealed. People who come in contact during the journey also increase their knowledge and information through their experiences and conversations.
Satsang and public contact- Through pilgrimage we come in contact with new and different people away from our relationships and home. From here the journey of ‘Vasudev Kutumbakam’ begins. One gets to know about many dialects, customs, food habits, festivals etc. There is mutual brotherhood and company of good people. The enthusiasm to know life awakens. Mutual curiosities create new relationships. Here there is no discrimination between big or small, high or low, everyone travels together. No matter how rich someone is, everyone does their own work. The feeling of helping others is awakened. Kindness, compassion, tolerance and sensitivity come in nature. By rising above the feeling of ‘yours and mine’, a person binds himself in the thread of human love and goes on a pilgrimage.
