Important talks between UAE and UK, discussion on Iran’s attacks and strategic cooperation

UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke by phone with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The main objective of this conversation was to increase strategic cooperation between the two countries and further strengthen mutual relations. The two leaders discussed working together to bring security and stability around the world.

Discussion on Iran’s actions

During the conversation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan thanked Britain for the support it has provided, especially in the face of Iran’s aggression. At the same time, Britain’s Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper clearly said that the UK fully stands with the UAE. He supported the UAE’s sovereignty and security of its citizens and strongly condemned the Iranian attacks as a violation of international law.

New framework for cooperation

The two countries had agreed on a ‘Framework for enhanced cooperation’ in Abu Dhabi on 18 April 2026. Under this agreement, work will be done together in important areas like foreign affairs, defence, trade, investment, Artificial Intelligence (AI), energy transition and judicial cooperation. Earlier in September 2021, a big program named ‘Partnership for the Future’ was launched to face global challenges.

The UAE is currently Britain’s largest trading partner in the Middle East and has more than 5,000 British companies operating here. Negotiations are underway for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the GCC and the UK from June 2022, the summary of which was released on 10 June 2026. Additionally, the UAE is investing heavily in UK research and development projects, particularly in the environment and clean energy sectors.
