But like thousands of other Muslim families, Shaukat Khanum's family also moved westwards to Punjab after 1947. During a previous visit to Jalandhar in 2004, Imran had told journalists about the trauma his family had to face due to moving to Lahore. He said that his ancestors were settled in Jalandhar for more than 600 years before 1947.
