In 2022, Samajwadi Party will take out ‘Vijay Rath’ from where Akhilesh’s cycle got stuck.

Samajwadi Party has started preparing the first major outline of its election strategy for the 2027 assembly elections. According to party sources, about 27 assembly seats which were lost by very small margins in 2022 have been made a part of ‘Mission Vijaypath’. Not only this, in most of these seats the Samajwadi Party seems to be in favor of giving second chance to the old candidates.

Samajwadi Party’s argument is that the support base created in the elections can be taken advantage of. After the better results in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the Samajwadi Party leadership believes that the results can be changed through strong booth management and social equations in those seats where victory had slipped by a few 100 or a few thousand votes in 2022.

Which seats will be the focus?

In 2022, Samajwadi Party had to face very close defeat on many seats. Let us know about these seats-

  • Dhampur: Naeem Ul Hasan – Margin of defeat 203 votes
  • Chair: Rakesh Verma – Margin of defeat 217 votes
  • Nakur: Dharam Singh Saini – Margin of defeat around 315 votes
  • Aliganj: Margin of defeat for Samajwadi parties is around 3 thousand votes
  • Chhibramau: Margin of defeat between 2 to 3 thousand votes
  • Shahganj: Margin of defeat less than 1000 votes
  • Bahraich: Margin of defeat less than 5 thousand votes
  • Moradabad Nagar: Margin of defeat less than 5 thousand votes
  • Madiyahu: Margin of defeat less than 5 thousand votes
  • Madhuban: Margin of defeat less than 5 thousand votes
  • Tirva: Margin of defeat less than 5 thousand votes
  • Sultanpur: Margin of defeat less than 5 thousand votes

There were many seats including Aurai, Faridpur, Jalalabad, Bindki, Jalesar, Katra, Manikpur, Mohammadi, Phulpur, Salon, Shravasti, Sitapur, Etawah where Samajwadi Party came very close to victory.

Why trust old candidates?

The party believes that changing the candidates who had secured strong votes despite defeat could cause organizational loss. Therefore, on most of the seats, old candidates have been instructed to remain active in the field. Potential candidates on many seats have already started public relations campaigns. The Samajwadi Party leadership feels that the effect of the PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority) formula was seen in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Now preparations are being made to keep this social alliance strong till the assembly elections. The party is especially focusing on non-Yadav backward classes, Dalits and youth.

The path to victory will emerge from the booth

According to sources, booth-wise review is being conducted in those seats where the margin of defeat was between 500 to 3000 votes. It is being seen which booths got less turnout than expected and which social groups did not get full support. Political experts believe that in Uttar Pradesh, often a difference of 20-30 seats proves to be decisive between forming the government and sitting in the opposition.

In such a situation, the assessment of Samajwadi Party in 2022 is clear, before winning new seats, it is necessary to win back those seats where the cycle had stopped after reaching the door of victory in 2022. This is why Akhilesh Yadav’s biggest mission now seems to be focused on those 27 seats, where a few hundred votes had left the dream of power unfulfilled.
