In the voting market through digital power Nonte-Fonte, Gupi-Baghader! CPM-BJP strategic campaign
Nonte-Fonte returned, Guppy-Baghao returned. Another look at the polling market. What power they have through digital! What a form! That changed form is actually politics. CPM fielded Nonte-Fonte. And the propaganda tool of BJP is Gupi-Bagha. These two anti-state parties are using Nonte-Fonte, Gupi-Baghade cartoons on social media to promote their manifesto promises.
Voting is going on in full swing. From political leaders to workers and supporters, everyone is campaigning for votes. Posters, slogans, writing on the walls, no one backed down to attack each other in the 2026 assembly elections. And social media is not far behind. Some funny pictures are circulating on WhatsApp, Facebook. Popular Bengali cartoons or popular Bengali films made through AI. There, CPM has used the nonte-fonte of late Narayan Debnath to promote the party on social media.
The world of ‘Nonte-Fonte’ was quite different. Nante-Font’s rivalry with the superintendent and the sleazy senior Keltu in the dormitory. CPM has featured them in its manifesto campaign. Where it is seen, the head sir is turning off the fan in the hostel. Nonte is heard saying to Keltuda, head sir kipte. Turn off the light during the day and the fan at night. That’s when Keltu says, if there were leftists, this suffering would not have happened. Because, the left said, ‘The first unit of electricity is waived, then the price of 100 units is halved’. This time the left has announced this promise in the election manifesto.
On the other hand, the BJP has promised financial assistance of Rs 3,000 per month to women and youth in their manifesto. That is what the BJP is showing through AI in the Gupi-Baghra cartoon. In the digital medium, Gupi is seen singing ‘Aha ki Anand Akashe Baatse’, with Bagha drumming. Gupi-bagha is going to sing this song in the village road. And there BJP is promoting various promises of the election manifesto.

In the evening routine familiar to most Bengali families, between tea parties and televised debates, this different kind of politics has crept in at the last minute in a Facebook video. Am Bengali is also very happy with it. CPM brought forward Narayan Debnath’s cartoon. And BJP is campaigning through Satyajit Ray’s Gupi Gain, Bagha Bain. Both sides are spreading this kind of propaganda on their own Facebook pages, on social media, on WhatsApp, in various groups.
