Increase in the strength of Indian Army: Indigenous company supplied 450 Kamikaze drones in India and abroad – REVOI

New Delhi, 15 October 2026: A major success has come to light that strengthens the combat capability and self-reliance of the Indian Army. A quantity of 450 'Loitering Munitions' have been successfully supplied to the Indian Army by 'Solar Defence', a leading indigenous company in the Indian defense sector, in a single batch. According to the company, this is the largest supply ever made in a single phase, which will give new heights to the border security of the Indian Army.

Loitering Munition is one such modern weapon, which is commonly known as 'kamikaze drone' (suicide drone). This drone can fly in the air around the target for a certain period of time and review it, and as soon as it gets the right opportunity, it attacks the enemy target and destroys itself. During the current Russia-Ukraine war, Middle East conflicts and recent military operations, the role of such cheap yet highly accurate attack suicide drones has proved to be decisive.

  • Key features of 'Nagastra-1R' system

More than 80 percent of the equipment and parts in this system have been manufactured in India. This is a very economical (effective and cheap) option compared to expensive equipment imported from abroad. This drone is fitted with a 'high-explosive fragmentation warhead' weighing approximately 1.5 kg. It is capable of destroying enemy launchpads, military resources and bunkers in a matter of moments. This drone can fly in the air continuously for 60 minutes (1 hour). Its guidance system is so accurate that it can hit targets within a radius of only 2 meters.

This supply order was placed in June 2025 after successful trials of 'Nagastra-1R' system under the Army Emergency Procurement (Emergency Procurement) process. During the procurement process, four leading companies from India and abroad had participated, but only Solar Defense met the requirements of the army by passing all the tough operational standards and live trials. This modern drone prepared under 'Make in India' will prove to be a great strength for the Indian Army.
