On 3 July in Gaul India ‘A’ and Sri Lanka ‘A’ On the second day of the second unofficial Test match between them, Sri Lanka ‘A’ captain Sahan Arachige scored a magnificent century in his captaincy innings. When the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team was in trouble, Arachige single-handedly took the Indian bowlers to a respectable score.
In the Sri Lanka ‘A’ innings, no batsman except Arachige could reach the half-century mark. Sahan Arachige batted with great composure to complete his century in 174 balls. He came in to bat when Sri Lanka ‘A’ was 3 wickets down for 143 runs in 36.1 overs.

Who is Sahan Arachige?
Sahan Arachige started his cricket career in 2015–16 with the Sri Lankan domestic club ‘Colts Cricket Club’, where he caught the attention of the Sri Lankan selectors by scoring over 3,700 runs at an excellent average of 39 in first-class cricket. He then made his ODI debut against the West Indies in July 2023 and his T20 International debut against Afghanistan in October 2023. He plays for major teams like Gayle Marvels in the Sri Lankan domestic T20 league and is currently the captain of the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team due to his outstanding performances.
Crucial partnership of 99 runs with Ashen Bandara
Ashen Bandara gave excellent support to Sahan Arachige in the middle order. The two batsmen combined to make the Indian bowlers desperate for wickets and put on a crucial partnership of 99 runs for the fifth wicket. Bandara’s half-century fell short and the team was bowled out for 42 runs. Sri Lanka ‘A’ lost two more wickets after Bandara was dismissed. Skipper Arachige then joined the lower order batsmen to take the innings forward. He shared a short but useful partnership of 35 runs for the sixth wicket with Chamika Gunasekara. Also, he added 28 runs with Ashen Bandara and 11 runs with Keshara Nuvanta in other opening partnerships. With this, Sri Lanka ‘A’ team were bowled out for 366 runs.

Performance of Sri Lanka ‘A’ team batsmen
Apart from the captain’s century in Sri Lanka’s innings, the rest of the batsmen got off to a good start, but could not convert it into big innings. Nuwanidu Fernando scored 44 runs, Ashen Bandara scored 42 runs and Pawanatha Weerasinghe scored 39 runs for the team. Among others, Sohan de Livera contributed 39 runs, Chamika Gunasekara 13 runs and Keshara Nuvanta one run. All in all, Sri Lanka’s entire innings saw skipper Arachige hovering around a century. This century did not put the Sri Lankan team in trouble.
Indian bowlers return
The Indian bowlers bowled perfectly on the second day to prevent the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team from building a big score. India ‘A’ Spinners Samantha Jain and Gurnoor Barad were the most successful bowlers for the team, sending Sri Lanka’s 4-4 batsmen back to the tent. Apart from him, Tej Yash Thakur bowled brilliantly and took 2 wickets. Aqib Nabi Dar, who was desperate for a wicket on the first day, bowled at the right stage on the second day as well. However, they did not succeed on the second day either. Earlier, on the first day of the Galle Test, Sri Lanka ‘A’ scored 288 for the loss of five wickets in their first innings, boosted by captain Arachige’s century on the second day.
