Heavy rains in many states across the country; ‘Red Alert’ issued for rain in Himachal along with Maharashtra
New Delhi : At present, Southwest Monsoon has reached almost every part of the country. In many states including Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha and Uttarakhand heavy rainfloods and landslides have disrupted life. Some areas are still receiving below average rainfall. Monsoon has brought respite from scorching heat in Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, but the hilly states have been sweltering.
Southwest Monsoon, which has reached nearly 95% of the country, is wreaking havoc with storms and heavy rains, while some areas are still awaiting rains. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, as well as Odisha in eastern India, Gujarat in western Gujarat and Mumbai in central Mumbai received heavy rainfall. In another cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh, several vehicles were buried under debris. Mumbai has experienced heavy rains, with up to 70 mm of rain falling in just five hours. Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas are covered with clouds, but the intensity of rain is not more than drizzle.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in the last 24 hours, heavy rainfall has occurred in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Assam, Nagaland and Karnataka. Odisha, Gujarat, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha received heavy rainfall (12-20 cm). Meanwhile, storms with winds of 60-125 kmph have wreaked havoc in Punjab, Haryana, West Rajasthan and Madhya Maharashtra.
A big storm is coming
Winds of 40-60 kmph have also lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada and Gujarat. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert warning of heavy to very heavy rain in several states including Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Flood-like situation in Mumbai
Many parts of Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, have been submerged due to heavy rains. Heavy rain for five hours on Friday had created a flood-like situation. Bandra recorded the highest rainfall of 73.8 mm.
