IND vs AFG 3rd ODI: Krishna’s claw, Jaiswal’s unbeaten century, India made a clean sweep 3-0
Chennai. Thanks to the claws of fast bowler Prasidh Krishna (five wickets for 23 runs) and his 170-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal (110 not out) and Rohit Sharma (79), India whitewashed Afghanistan 3-0 by winning the third and final ODI by nine wickets on Saturday. India achieved a one-sided victory by scoring 224 runs for one wicket in 28.4 overs after bowling out Afghanistan for 218 runs in 44.2 overs. While chasing, India got 23 runs in the first over itself which helped in setting the tone.
Rohit completed his 62nd half-century in 47 balls and then started scoring runs rapidly. Yashasvi attacked early and completed his fifty in just 37 balls. Rohit could not get close to his century, but Jaiswal scored his second ODI century without making any mistake. Jaiswal hit 13 fours and three sixes in his unbeaten inning of 110 runs in 86 balls. He also hit the winning six. Rohit hit nine fours and three sixes in 79 runs in 69 balls.
Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten after scoring 20 runs with the help of two sixes. After Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first, Krishna shocked the Afghan team with his lethal bowling. Krishna took four wickets for Afghanistan while scoring 36 runs. Krishna took his fifth wicket by dismissing Hashmatullah Shahidi, who had scored a century, and wrapped up Afghanistan’s innings. Afghanistan had a two-half innings.
The first four wickets fell very quickly and the team came under pressure. After this, the century partnership of Ajmat and Hashmat made a tremendous comeback and the run rate also went above 5. However, after the dismissal of Ajmat, the pace of runs slowed down. Indian bowlers continuously targeted Hashmat with short balls on which he was seen ducking most of the time.
Hashmat’s innings was very slow in which he played a lot of dot balls, but perhaps it was because of his century that the team played till the 45th over and could cross the 200 mark. Prasidh ended the innings after taking four wickets in the powerplay and then ended the innings with his paws open. Total 218 from 36/4. This was possible only due to the courage shown by the Afghanistan captain, who scored his first ODI century. He hit 13 fours and one six in his century innings of 131 balls.
His 105-run partnership with Azmatullah Umarzai (50) actually got the innings back on track, but the innings again fell apart, losing the last five wickets for just 20 runs. For India, Prasidh Krishna gave a brilliant performance, taking four wickets in his first five overs. It was a brilliant display of fast bowling, on a pitch that had plenty of pace and bounce, as well as some lateral movement early on.
