Shubman Gill has a chance to make history
Indian captain Shubman Gill has scored 2953 runs in 61 innings of 61 ODIs with 8 centuries and 17 fifties. He needs 47 more runs to complete 3000 runs. He has six innings left to break Shai Hope’s record. This record is highly likely to be broken, but it can be broken even in the first ODI in Dharamsala. Gill previously held the records for fastest 2000 and 2500 runs in ODI cricket. Therefore, there is a possibility that he will cross the 3000 runs mark in a record manner. Gill can add another important record to the list of legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Indian cricket.
Who holds the record of 3000 runs?
Hashim Amla of South Africa holds the record for fastest to reach 3000 runs in ODI cricket. Amla had reached this milestone in 57 innings. If Shubman Gill scores 47 or more in his first match against Afghanistan, he will reach 3000 runs in the 63rd innings and become the second fastest batsman in the world. Currently, Shai Hope is second on the list, having achieved this milestone on December 22, 2019 against India. He completed 3,000 runs in 67 innings.
Who is the fastest Indian player to score 3000 runs?
Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan holds the record for scoring 3,000 runs in the shortest innings in ODIs. He completed 3,000 runs in 2016 in his 72nd innings. Gill is also on the verge of becoming the fastest Indian batsman to score 3,000 runs in ODIs.
