Team India captain Shubhman Gill has scored a century in the only test being played against Afghanistan in Mullanpur. This is the 11th century of Gill’s Test career. Out of these, he has scored 6 centuries as captain. He has become the sixth Indian captain to score the most centuries in Test cricket. Gill is unbeaten on 103 runs till the end of the first day’s play (June 6). Now he is just 54 runs away from joining the elite club of Sachin-Kohli.

Gill will join the club of greats as soon as he scores 54 runs.

26 year old Gill is 54 runs away from completing 3000 runs in Test cricket. He has scored 2946 test runs in 74 innings. If he scores 54 more runs on the second day of the Mullanpur Test (June 7), he will join the club of the top-10 Indian batsmen who are the fastest to complete 3000 runs in this format. The fastest Indian batsman to score 3000 runs in Test cricket is Virender Sehwag, who achieved this milestone in just 55 innings.

 

After Sehwag, there are Mohammad Azharuddin (64 innings), Sunil Gavaskar (66 innings), Gautam Gambhir (66 innings), Sachin Tendulkar (67 innings), Rahul Dravid (67 innings), Cheteshwar Pujara (67 innings), Navjot Singh Sidhu (70 innings), Virat Kohli (73 innings) and Rohit Sharma (74 innings). Gill also has a chance to equal Rohit Sharma’s record of scoring the fastest 3000 runs.
