Tezzbuzz Desk – The six-match white-ball series between India and Bangladesh to be held in September 2026 seems to be in trouble once again. Talks are going on between the cricket boards of the two countries regarding the series and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal has indicated that the dates of the matches can be changed. However, there has been no official announcement of cancellation of the series yet.
The Indian team has to play three ODI and three T20 International matches on the Bangladesh tour. According to the current schedule, the series is going to start from September 3. But even as the date is approaching, the picture regarding the Indian tour is not completely clear. In such a situation, a question is being raised among the cricket fans whether Team India will reach Bangladesh on time or this series will have to be postponed once again. Actually, this series between India and Bangladesh was earlier to be played in August 2025. But at that time, due to the situation prevailing between the two countries and the circumstances arising between the cricket boards, the tour was postponed. Later both the boards had agreed to conduct it in September 2026. Now again confusion has arisen regarding the dates.
BCB Chief Tamim Iqbal's statement in this entire matter is being considered very important. He clarified that talks are still going on between BCCI and BCB regarding the India-Bangladesh series. According to Tamim, a slight change in the dates is possible. That is, at present there is no situation of complete cancellation of the series, but its schedule can be moved back and forth. Another twist regarding the schedule of the series has come to light due to the domestic cricket calendar of Bangladesh. BCB has announced the schedule of an age-group competition named Game Development Trophy. This tournament is proposed from 28th August to 9th September at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. This time is clashing with the possible tour of India. However, Tamim Iqbal has not considered this conflict as a big problem. He says that if the India series is decided then the domestic tournament can be shifted to another ground. That means BCB is ready to change its domestic schedule for the tour of India. This indicates that the board is still hopeful about the tour of India.
There have been ups and downs in the relations between the cricket boards of India and Bangladesh in the recent past. This year, tension in the cricket relations between the two countries increased when there was a controversy in the IPL regarding fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, associated with Kolkata Knight Riders. After this, Bangladesh had refused to go to the T20 World Cup to be held in India and had demanded to hold their matches in Sri Lanka. However, after Tamim Iqbal became the BCB President, there have been signs of improvement in relations between the two boards. Tamim also came to India this month and visited the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. In such a situation, it is believed that both the cricket boards are trying to find a way out for the series through talks.
The September schedule is quite busy for India too. According to the available schedule, the Indian team has to play three T20 matches against Afghanistan in September, while after this an ODI series is proposed against West Indies. In such a situation, to change the dates of Bangladesh tour, both the boards will have to keep in mind the busy schedule of the Indian team. At present the most important thing is that the India-Bangladesh series. not canceledbut the situation regarding its dates is not clear. It is definitely clear from Tamim Iqbal's statement that BCCI and BCB are in talks and changes can be made in the schedule if necessary. Now eyes are on the next official announcement of both the boards. If the decision is not taken soon, the proposed series starting from September 3 may be postponed.
