New Delhi: The first match of the two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka has started at the Galle International Stadium. In this match which started on the historic day of Independence Day i.e. 15th August, Indian team captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bat first. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and experienced KL Rahul, who came to start the innings, provided a steady pace to the team by batting in a very cautious and composed manner in the initial overs. However, when the Indian team was moving towards a strong position, Yashasvi Jaiswal unfortunately got run out and returned to the pavilion. In the three-day practice match played before the start of the Test series, the Indian team dominated and registered a spectacular victory.

Padikkal had played a brilliant century of 142 runs in the three-day practice match held just before the series. At present, after 22 overs of play, the Indian team has scored 80 runs at the loss of 1 wicket.
