Colombo: India declared its first innings at the score of 503/9 in the second Test against Sri Lanka being played at the Sinhalese Sports Club. Devdutt Padikal and Dhruv Jurel scored centuries in the Indian innings, while Rishabh Pant, who returned from injury, played an important inning of 63 runs.
Padikal took over the innings, century partnership with Gill
After winning the toss, the Indian team came to bat first and got the first blow in the form of KL Rahul on the score of 37 runs. Rahul was out after scoring 18 runs in 33 balls.
After this Devdutt Padikal took over the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both added 29 runs for the second wicket. Jaiswal returned to the pavilion after scoring 45 runs in 53 balls with the help of 9 fours.
After this, Padikal made a partnership of 120 runs with captain Shubhman Gill for the third wicket. Gill scored 50 runs with the help of 6 fours. Whereas Padikal batted brilliantly and scored 117 runs with 12 fours.
Pant made a great comeback after injury
Rishabh Pant came to bat at number five, but got injured after playing 15 balls. In the 58th over, Lahiru Kumara's ball hit his left wrist. Due to severe pain, Pant retired hurt and left the field on the personal score of 3 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja came to bat in his place and contributed 43 runs. However, on the second day Pant returned to the field to bat again.
Pant and Jurel added 112 runs
On the second day, Pant batted brilliantly with Dhruv Jurel and there was a partnership of 112 runs between the two. Pant was out in 112.1 overs on the bowling of Keshra Nuwantha. He scored 63 runs, which included 4 fours and 2 sixes.
After this, India lost the wicket of Manav Suthar at the score of 18 runs. India's score was 475 runs for 8 wickets in 131.2 overs, when the game had to be stopped due to rain.
Dhruv Jurel scored a brilliant century
After the game resumed, Mohammad Siraj was out after scoring 3 runs on the first ball of the 137th over. There was a partnership of 31 runs between Siraj and Jurel.
After this India declared its innings after 11 balls. Dhruv Jurel remained unbeaten after scoring 115 runs. He hit 9 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. Prasidh Krishna remained unbeaten after scoring 4 runs.
Fernando got four wickets
Asitha Fernando was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka, taking 4 wickets. Prabhat Jayasuriya and Keshara Nuwantha got 2 wickets each, while Lahiru Kumara took one wicket.
Sri Lanka's innings also stopped due to rain
Sri Lanka started its first innings after India's innings was declared. Lahiru Udara and Kamil Mishara came out to bat for the host team.
Lahiru Udara had faced only two balls from Mohammed Siraj when rain once again disrupted the play and the match had to be stopped.
