The Indian cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the Sri Lanka tour. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the Test series due to injury. Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Aaqib Nabi has been included in the Indian Test team for the first time in his place.
BCCI officially announced
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced via social media that Bumrah’s left knee injury has not fully healed. He has been rested on the advice of the medical team. Aaqib Nabi has been included in the Test squad in his place.
Rewarded for his excellent performance in domestic cricket
Aqib Nabi has bowled brilliantly in the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, taking 104 wickets . This includes 60 wickets in the 2025-26 season . His outstanding performances helped Jammu and Kashmir win the Ranji Trophy for the first time.
Recently, Nabi also toured Sri Lanka with the India A team, where he caught the attention of the selectors by taking six wickets in two unofficial Test matches .

Sri Lanka tour schedule
The Indian team will depart for Sri Lanka on August 4. The tour will begin with a three-day warm-up match in Colombo from August 7 to 9. This will be followed by the first Test in Galle from August 15 and the second Test in Colombo from August 23 .
