Hitman Rohit Sharma and India skipper Shubman Gill scored impressive centuries to open the second ODI of India vs West Indies (Ind vs Wi ODI) here. The two opened with a partnership of 255 runs for the first wicket. Had he added 4 more runs, he would have had a chance to break Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly's record of 258 runs in the opener 25 years ago.

Earlier, West Indies challenged India to 405 for 7, but their bowlers could not survive against the stormy play of Gill and Rohit Sharma. Both retained their wickets, plucking the feathers of their bowlers. Gill showed an aggressive style of play and celebrated a resounding century in just 62 balls. Rohit scored his 35th century with the help of 10 fours and 6 sixes in 72 balls. Rohit Karvi (101) got West Indies' first breakthrough in 26.2 overs. Jaden Sales quelled the storm by dropping Rohit.

Prince set many records

Shubman Gill, popularly known as Prince in the Indian team, made a splash while chasing the runs given by the West Indies. He started raining runs right from the start. He scored his century in just 62 balls. Thus, he has reached the fifth position in the list of fastest century scorers for India. King Virat Kohli is number one in this list and he scored a century in 52 balls against Australia in Jaipur in 2013. Virender Sehwag who scored a century in 60 balls is after him and Virat's century in 61 balls is at the third place. K. who scored a century in 62 balls at the fourth place. L. Rahul's name is included.

Also, Gill has reached the third position among those who have scored 11 ODI centuries in less innings. South Africa's Hashim Amla tops the list with 11 centuries in 64 innings, followed by South Africa's Quinton de Kock with 65, while Gill is third with 11 centuries in 68 innings.
