The T20 series against West Indies is no less than a big opportunity for Team India captain Shreyas Iyer. This is because if he wants, he can achieve that feat in this series, which neither Virat Kohli nor Suryakumar Yadav could do during his captaincy. Shreyas Iyer has a chance to be at the forefront. Now you might be wondering what is the occasion? After all, what can Team India’s T20 captain achieve against West Indies?
There is no one like Rohit Sharma
Shreyas Iyer has a chance to match Rohit Sharma in the 5-match T20 series against West Indies. The captain who has won the most consecutive matches for India in T20 is Rohit Sharma. He made India win 11 consecutive T20 matches under his captaincy in the year 2024. Before that, the record between 2019 and 2022 is even more tremendous. During that time, Rohit Sharma made India win 14 consecutive T20 matches under his captaincy. Meaning, Rohit Sharma has done the feat of leading India to 10 or more consecutive wins not once but twice under his T20 captaincy and he is the first Indian captain to do so.
Iyer currently stands at par with Virat and Surya
Talking about Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, they have won 9-9 matches continuously under their T20 captaincy. Virat Kohli did this amazing thing in 2019-20. Whereas Suryakumar Yadav had achieved this feat only last year.
Shreyas Iyer is also currently standing with Virat and Surya. He has also made India win 9 consecutive matches this year under his T20 captaincy. Now, against West Indies, he has a chance to leave everyone behind.
Iyer has a chance to catch Rohit Sharma
If Shreyas Iyer makes a clean sweep in the T20 series against West Indies, then like Rohit Sharma, he will also become the Indian captain to win 14 consecutive T20 matches. By doing this, he will also become the second T20 captain of India, who has won 10 or more matches continuously. Meaning, the work which Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav could not do, like Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer can be seen doing that work under his captaincy.
