Uproar among supporters of Narottam Mishra
In Datia, Madhya Pradesh, supporters of former Home Minister Narottam Mishra protested against not getting the ticket for the assembly by-election. During the demonstration, stones were pelted at the police, after which heavy police force was deployed in the area.
Datia MP Swapnil Wankhede said that the protesters had blocked National Highway-44 last night. This jam lasted for about 11 hours and ended at 5 in the morning. During this time there was a jam of about 20 to 25 kilometers long. He said that this jam affected four districts including Datia, Jhansi, Shivpuri and Gwalior. The biggest problem happened in Gwalior. Many buses, trucks and ambulances also got stuck in the jam.
According to Swapnil Wankhede, the police kept trying to convince the protesters the whole night, but they did not agree. At around 4 in the morning, the police again tried to negotiate, but after this the protesters started pelting stones at the police. When the situation worsened, the police released tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. After this the protesters went to an office building and kept pelting stones at the police from there also.
8 policemen were seriously injured in this violence. The SDPO suffered serious injuries on his hand, while the SP and ASP were also injured. MP Swapnil Wankhede told that he also got hit on his head, but he was wearing a helmet, due to which a major accident was averted. He said that during the protest many vehicles were overturned and the windows of many trucks including 3-4 police vehicles were broken.
