What did Hezbollah say on the ceasefire?
Hezbollah chief Naim Qasim has said that a ceasefire with Israel should mean a complete stop to attacks. He warned that if there is any violation by Israel in southern Lebanon, Hezbollah will respond. Qasim said, “The ceasefire cannot be unilateral,” and made it clear that his fighters will respond to any attack or violation.
He also put forward five important conditions – a permanent ceasefire throughout Lebanon, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces, the release of prisoners, the return of displaced people and reconstruction with Arab and international cooperation. Qassem also said that Hezbollah has not been defeated and will continue to strive for Lebanon’s independence and sovereignty.
He also talked about a “new beginning” for cooperation with the Lebanese government and expressed readiness to work together with government institutions to strengthen the unity and sovereignty of the country.
