Modi is on a two-day state visit to Uzbekistan from August 29 to 30 at the invitation of Mirziyoyev.
Tashkent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent. During this, India and Uzbekistan agreed to increase cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, digital connectivity, defense and energy. Modi is on a two-day state visit to Uzbekistan from August 29 to 30 at the invitation of Mirziyoyev. This is his fourth visit to the Central Asian country.
Modi was given a ceremonial welcome as he arrived for delegation-level talks with Mirziyoyev. The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen India-Uzbekistan strategic partnership and advance the common development goals of 'Developed India' and 'Yangi Uzbekistan'.
According to the Indian side, a wide range of areas including trade and investment, digital connectivity, defense and energy were discussed in the talks. Modi had earlier said that India-Uzbekistan strategic partnership has made considerable progress in recent years and expressed his desire to further deepen cooperation in key areas.
On Sunday, Modi also participated in a yoga session organized by the Uzbekistan Yoga Federation. The Foreign Ministry said, yoga is very popular in Uzbekistan. It is bringing people and cultures closer and strengthening mutual ties between the people of India and Uzbekistan.
After attending the session, Modi said Uzbekistan had proudly participated in the first World Yoga Championship held in Ahmedabad earlier this year and some of the medal winners were also present in the session.
Modi arrived in Tashkent on Saturday and was warmly welcomed by Mirziyoyev at the airport. The Prime Minister then visited Yangi Uzbekistan Park and laid a wreath at the 'Freedom Monument' along with Mirziyoyev.
He also met people of the Indian community in a hotel in Tashkent. There he saw performances of Kathak and Andijan polka by expatriate Indians and watched Uzbek children dance to the Indian song Ude Jab-Jab Zulfen Teri.
PM Modi will participate in SCO summit
Modi also watched a performance based on tabla and accompaniment of traditional Uzbek instruments 'Doira' and 'Chang'. The Prime Minister will visit Kyrgyzstan from Tashkent to attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit to be held from August 31 to September 1, at the invitation of Kyrgyzstan's President Sadir Zhaparov. This summit will be organized on the occasion of completion of 25 years of the establishment of SCO. Modi will address the summit and highlight India's priorities such as security, connectivity and opportunity. He will also hold bilateral meetings with SCO leaders during the conference. He will also attend the opening ceremony of the sixth 'World Nomad Games'.
