Indian judo players have performed exceptionally well at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. India’s Harsh Singh and Asmita Dey created history by winning gold medals in their respective categories. Both are 23 years old. Furthermore, India’s Yamini Maurya has also reached the final, ensuring India a silver medal.
Asmita Dey defeated Canada’s Heidi Quach in a thrilling final to win the gold medal in the women’s 48 kg category. This made her the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games.
Harsh defeated Joshua Katz of Australia
Just 30 minutes after Asmita’s victory, India’s Harsh Singh made history by winning another gold medal. Harsh defeated Australia’s Joshua Katz in the men’s 60 kg final to win the gold medal. Harsh Singh became the first Indian male to win a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Asmita and Harsh for their impressive performance. PM Modi called the victory on X a historic day for Indian judo.
