India bids for 2038 Asian Games
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has expressed its interest in hosting the 2038 Asian Games in a letter to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
The 2038 edition is the next available continental games whose hosting rights are up for grabs with the 2026 Games slated to be held in Aichi-Nagoya later this year, 2030 edition in Doha, and 2034 in Riyadh.
As per a report in The Indian Express, the proposal to hand India the hosting rights was discussed at the OCA’s executive board meeting in Sanya, China on Thursday.
An OCA team is expected to travel to India to assess the bid soon.
Apart from India, South Korea and Mongolia are the other nations which have expressed their interest in hosting the 2038 Asian Games.
India has hosted the Asian Games twice in 1951 and 1982. The 1951 Games were the first-ever edition of the continental competition.
India’s bid for the 2038 Asian Games comes after the nation was awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad recently. The country has also put their hat in the ring for the 2036 Olympic Games with Ahmedabad as the host city.
