INDIA Bloc Postpones Public Impeachment of CEC

Persistent morning rain in the national capital on Friday forced the opposition INDIA bloc to postpone its high-profile “public impeachment” of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

The symbolic protest, originally scheduled for Friday at 3:30 PM, will now take place on Saturday at the same time in the lawns of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s official residence on Rajaji Marg.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is slated to chair the proceedings, during which Kharge will move the “motion” and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will deliver the concluding address.

Invites have been extended to opposition MPs, with one representative from each constituent party likely to speak against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The decision follows a preparatory meeting held Thursday by key alliance leaders—including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, Derek O’Brien, and John Brittas—to finalise the event’s blueprint.

The Congress claimed it was forced to host the event at Kharge’s residence after being denied official permits for public venues. The symbolic impeachment acts as a precursor to the opposition’s mega-rally against “vote theft,” planned for November 1 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.
