The protest ended after the opposition MPs were detained

New Delhi. On Tuesday, after the opposition alliance 'India' MPs stopped the march from Parliament Street to the Election Commission headquarters, the opposition MPs sat on a dharna in front of the NITI Aayog office, after which many of them were taken into custody.

During this, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra along with some other supporters entered the Akashvani Bhawan premises and sat under a tree there. This march of the opposition alliance was to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and cancellation of the Special Intensive Review (SIR).

Earlier, after being stopped from proceeding towards the election chamber, opposition MPs sat on the road in protest. Soon Rahul Gandhi and Trinamool Congress' Abhishek Banerjee climbed the police barricade, while Priyanka Gandhi was taken to a bus parked there to be detained.

However, Priyanka was soon seen getting down from the bus and reached her brother Rahul at the gate of Akashvani Bhawan. Despite being stopped by the police, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Deepender Hooda entered the Akashvani Bhawan complex through the reception gate. Later he was seen sitting under a tree. The protest ended after the opposition MPs were detained. However, many Congress leaders including Rahul and Priyanka are still in Akashvani Bhavan.
