Government’s big clarification on Ethanol Blended Petrol: ‘Internet claims are completely misleading, fuel is completely safe’

India Government On Ethanol Blended Petrol: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Tuesday clarified that the ethanol blending program is completely scientifically valid. All the claims being made on the internet media regarding ethanol mixed petrol are misleading and completely baseless. Some old pictures and videos are being re-circulated, the main purpose of which is only to mislead the general public. The government is very conscious about this whole matter and is taking necessary steps to stop misleading information.

The ministry has clearly stated that no problem of engine failure has been reported since the use of E-20 petrol. Recently a misleading video on internet media falsely depicted ants near a fuel tank. The Petroleum Ministry has completely refuted this false and baseless video. The Government continuously and closely monitors the entire ethanol blending program in consultation with oil marketing companies and other stakeholders.

Ethanol blending program started

The Ethanol Blending Program was launched in 2003 with the key objectives of rapidly reducing heavy crude oil imports into the country and enhancing strong energy security. This special program has been implemented in a phased manner based on technical preparedness and stakeholder consultation to continuously promote environmental sustainability. From the year 2023, successful and safe implementation of 20 percent ethanol blend i.e. E-20 petrol is being done very fast in the entire country.

Globally successful and safe

The Petroleum Ministry said that since the official launch of E-20 petrol, there has been no widespread vehicle breakdown or engine problems due to ethanol blending. Ethanol blending is a very good and modern global practice which has already been successfully implemented in many other major countries of the world. This is a completely safe scientific process and is continuously monitored by the government in collaboration with fuel testing agencies and automobile manufacturers.

This very important ethanol blending program of the government has helped our country a lot in saving huge foreign exchange of about Rs 1.40 lakh crore. Along with this, this brilliant and successful program of blending ethanol in petrol has also given a huge boost to the income of lakhs of farmers across the country. The Petroleum Ministry has clearly stated that this program is a very important step towards rapidly enhancing India’s overall energy security in the future.
