The situation has worsened due to heavy rains in many parts of the country. At many places the rain water increased so much that even vehicles were washed away. Many areas of Assam are still submerged in flood water.
India Flood News: Continuous heavy rains in many states of India have badly affected life. The flood situation in Assam remains serious, while flood-like conditions have arisen in many parts of Gujarat after torrential rains. Roads are submerged in many areas, rivers are in spate and at some places there have been reports of vehicles being washed away in the strong current of water. The administration and disaster relief teams are continuously running operations to evacuate people to safe places in the affected areas.
11 districts of Assam in the grip of floods
The impact of floods is continuously increasing in Assam. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 11 districts of the state are affected by floods. These districts include Golaghat, Hojai, Kamrup, Charaideo, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Nagaon, Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong and Tinsukia. 37 revenue circles and 883 villages have been affected due to the floods. According to officials, more than 7.21 lakh people have been affected by the flood situation in the state. Apart from this, information has come to light about damage to standing crops in about 25,375 hectares of agricultural land.
According to the administration, so far six people have died in flood-related incidents. Of these, four deaths have been recorded in Sivasagar district and two in Charaideo district. At present there is no official information about any person missing.
Maximum impact in Sivasagar
The situation in Sivasagar is said to be the most serious among the flood affected districts of Assam. More than 3.75 lakh people have been affected here. After this, there is information about about 1.86 lakh people being affected in Charaideo and more than 1.15 lakh people in Jorhat. Normal life has been affected in many villages due to floods. Due to water logging in low-lying areas, people have been forced to move to safe places. It has also had a widespread impact on the agricultural sector, due to which farmers are worried about financial losses.
Thousands of people reached relief camps
The administration has set up relief camps and distribution centers for the flood affected people. According to officials, currently 103 relief camps and 255 relief distribution centers are being operated. More than 24 thousand people are living in relief camps, while relief material and other necessary assistance has been provided to more than 2.39 lakh affected people through relief distribution centres.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Army, fire and emergency services along with the district administration are engaged in relief and rescue operations. Operations are underway to rescue people stranded in the affected areas and to deliver essential goods.
Situation worsened due to heavy rain in Gujarat also
Apart from Assam, continuous heavy rains in Gujarat have also increased problems in many areas. Roads have been submerged in water in many parts of the state and the rise in the water level of rivers has created a flood-like situation. Many areas were flooded after heavy rains in Bhabhar town of Vav-Tharad district. There are reports of water reaching inside shops and commercial establishments in Lati Bazar area.
Local administration and rescue teams are helping people in the affected areas. In Surat too, around 2,200 people have been shifted to safe places and shelter homes amid heavy rains and waterlogging. In view of the situation created by floods and rains, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel over phone and took information about the situation.
The Prime Minister assured the state government of providing all possible assistance from the Centre. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also talked to the Chief Minister and assured to provide necessary help for relief and rescue operations.
