India's long-standing claims for reforms and permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have now received strong support from the top leadership of the UN itself. In his farewell speech and in the last phase of his tenure, the UN Secretary General has described the current structure of the Security Council as obsolete and strongly advocated for immediate and comprehensive reforms in it. This clear support of the Secretary General has further strengthened India's diplomatic position on the global stage, as India has been demanding for decades that it is essential to increase the representation of developing countries and the Global South in the Security Council in accordance with the geopolitical equations of the changing world.
